    (Re)Installation of OpenMediaVault 1.0.X

    Description

    If you want to install OpenMediaVault for the first time or your system is messed up and you definitely need a reinstallation of OpenMediaVault, you can follow these steps to make it as easy as it could be.


    Pre-Installation steps

    • Make a backup of your config.xml which is located here /etc/openmediavault/config.xml (Just if you do a reinstallation)
    • Shutdown your NAS
    • Unplug all data disks


    Installation


    Way 1:
    You can simply download one of the ISOS provided here: (Currently OMV 2.X)
    32 and 64 bit >> http://sourceforge.net/projects/openmediavault/files/2.1/


    Boot from the ISO, and install. Done!

    Follow this instruction:
    Howto install OpenMediaVault on Debian 7.x (Wheezy)



    Post-Installation steps

    • Shutdown your NAS
    • Plug your data drives back in
    • Boot OpenMediaVault
    • Switch to system >> Update Manager >> Click 'Check' >> Mark all the updates >> Click 'Upgrade'
    • Switch to Storage >> File Systems >> Click your File System >> Click 'Mount'
    • Install your wanted plugins
    • Reconfigure your users, plugins, services
    • Done.

Reinstall openmediavault without losing data

Insert the boot Media that you prepared for the installation into the PC or Server were OpenMediaVault shall be installed and start or reboot the system. It might be necessary to select the correct boot media device in the BIOS. When the System booted successfully you will see the following screen of the OpenMediaVault installer. Openmediavault can be installed on an USB flash drive to boot from it. Follow the Install on Dedicated Drive and select your USB flash drive as target drive. Enable the openmediavault-flashmemory plugin. This lowers the amount of writes to the USB flash drive, making sure you can enjoy it for a long time.
